Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

Chairman, Drafting Committee

Jurist, economist and social reformer who chaired the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly. Widely regarded as the chief architect of the Constitution of India, he steered the drafting of fundamental rights, directive principles, and the safeguards against discrimination that define the modern Republic.

Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru

Mover of the Objectives Resolution; first Prime Minister of India

Nehru moved the Objectives Resolution on 13 December 1946, which became the philosophical foundation and later the Preamble of the Constitution. He anchored the Assembly's vision of India as a sovereign, democratic republic committed to justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad

President of the Constituent Assembly; first President of India

Presided over the Constituent Assembly from December 1946 until the Constitution was adopted on 26 November 1949. As Chair, he steered debates across three years, balanced diverse regional and ideological voices, and authenticated the final text.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Chair, Advisory Committee on Fundamental Rights, Minorities and Tribal Areas

Chaired the crucial Advisory Committee whose reports shaped the chapters on Fundamental Rights, minorities, and tribal areas. As Deputy Prime Minister, he simultaneously integrated over 560 princely states into the Indian Union, giving the Constitution a territory to govern.

Sir B. N. Rau

Constitutional Advisor to the Constituent Assembly

As Constitutional Advisor, Rau prepared the initial draft of the Constitution in October 1947, drawing on comparative constitutional research from the United States, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. His draft formed the working base for the Drafting Committee.

Sarojini Naidu

Member, Constituent Assembly; first woman Governor of an Indian state

Poet, orator and freedom fighter, Naidu was among fifteen women members of the Constituent Assembly. She advocated for women's political rights, universal adult franchise, and an inclusive vision of Indian citizenship.
